Betty Ford is resting at home after surgery
Former First Lady Betty Ford was released Monday from Eisenhower Medical Center after unspecified surgery and was resting comfortably at home, her office said in a statement.
“Mrs. Ford and the Ford family extend thanks to everyone for their prayers, well wishes, cards and flowers,” the statement said.
No other information was released on Ford, who celebrated her 89th birthday Sunday, or on last week’s surgery.
The first lady from 1974 to 1977, she earned wide respect for her frankness as she battled breast cancer, arthritis and addictions to drugs and alcohol.
Her husband, former President Gerald Ford, died Dec. 26 at age 93.
