30-year mortgage rate highest since February

Mortgage giant Freddie Mac said 30-year fixed-rate mortgages averaged 6.22% this week, up from 6.17% last week and the highest rate since Feb. 22, when it was also 6.22%.

Rates on 15-year, fixed-rate mortgages, a popular choice for refinancing, rose to 5.9%, up from last week’s 5.87%. Five-year adjustable-rate mortgages averaged 5.93%, compared with 5.92% last week. One-year adjustable-rate mortgages edged up to 5.47% from 5.44% last week.

The rates do not include add-on fees known as points.
