Iran won’t be pushed around

Re “Iran’s nuclear claims raise fear, skepticism,” April 10

Iran has announced that it is now capable of producing nuclear fuel on an industrial scale, which is entirely within its right under the terms of the Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty.

Iran says it is for peaceful use; the White House says it is for bombs -- considering the White House’s record on truth, it’s a tossup as to who to believe.

No nation worth its salt would stand for the humiliation of being treated like an errant child. When President Bush starts treating every nation as sovereign and adult instead of banishing the ones with which he disagrees to their rooms without supper, he may get an adult response.

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad may be lying about his country’s nuclear capabilities, but I don’t blame him. Looking west, he sees the U.S. destruction of Iraq and realizes that he may soon fall victim to Bush’s desire to invade his country.

If Ahmadinejad doesn’t soon declare Iran a nuclear power capable of fending off invaders, instead of a nuclear symbol he will have to draw a bull’s-eye on his currency.
