Chicago in running for the Olympics

Re “In novel fashion, Chicago edges L.A. for Olympic bid,” April 15

When Chicago became a possible host city for the 2016 Olympics, I understand some city officials jumped out of their chairs in excitement in hearing the news. Maybe now those same officials will be just as excited to change the city’s image. Chicago was once known as the city of Al Capone. Then, Michael Jordan changed that view of the city with the Bulls championship run. Since he left town, the city has been known for political corruption, poor mail delivery, weak public schools and rogue cops.

We should not submit to the arbitrary decision of the U.S. Olympic Committee. The USOC should submit all eligible cities’ bids to the International Olympic Committee for consideration. Why should we limit ourselves to one city when we have two eligible and eager to host the games in 2016?
