3 U.S. soldiers killed, 6 injured; Sunni sheik slain

Three U.S. soldiers were killed and six wounded Saturday in attacks in Baghdad and southwest of the Iraqi capital, the military said.

A roadside bomb killed a soldier and wounded two while they were on a foot patrol southwest of Baghdad. Another died and three were wounded when their vehicle was struck by a roadside bomb and small-arms fire in southwest Baghdad. A combat security patrol in east Baghdad came under small-arms fire, killing a soldier and wounding one. At least 3,319 U.S. troops have died in Iraq since the March 2003 invasion, according to the website icasualties.org, which tracks military casualties.

In Diwaniya, 95 miles south of Baghdad, a roadside bomb killed a Polish soldier late Friday.

In Fallouja, City Council Chairman, Sami Abdul Amir Jumaili, a Sunni sheik, was gunned down Saturday near his home.
