Lack of respect for victims

Re “Fade to black,” Opinion, April 18

Wesley Strick seems to imply that Lana Clarkson (and the other historical female victims of violence he mentions in his article) were the sole active agents responsible for their untimely deaths. Strick seems to suggest that women in Hollywood who are murdered get what they were asking for because they wanted a career and didn’t do their homework by conducting an in-depth background investigation on an acquaintance. But he overlooks the obvious point: that a casual meeting should not lead to someone dying -- whether sex is involved or not. I found his article deeply misogynistic and lacking in respect for these victims of violence.

Strick’s fine writing notwithstanding, what possible purpose does running his piece while this matter is being adjudicated serve? The story trivializes Clarkson’s life and death. Your timing is poor, and running it under the guise of Op-Ed is like calling a movie trailer hard news.

Strick implicitly exonerates Phil Spector and any other boy who is a little wacky and plays with guns. Has he seen the news this week? Does he have any neurons firing? With this kind of thinking, however, you might just let Strick know that there’s an opening for a radio talk show host -- he sounds like the perfect replacement.
