Wildfires force residents to flee
From Times Wire Reports
Hundreds of residents were told to leave their homes as one wildfire rekindled and destroyed at least four houses and another threatened to jump a highway, forcing the evacuation of a fire command center, authorities said.
The fire near Nahunta, east of Waycross, that firefighters said they had contained last week began raging again and threatening more homes.
In the last 11 days, wildfires have blackened 95 square miles of forest and swamp parched by drought. Officials said 18 homes had been destroyed overall.
