Cars, stars and hot-rod memories

Fans of the Petersen Automotive Museum can pay tribute to its recently departed major benefactor, Robert E. Petersen, at the 13-year-old museum’s annual gala May 10.

Petersen, founder of Hot Rod, Motor Trend and more than 20 other automotive, outdoor and lifestyle magazines, died of cancer in March at age 80.

He and his wife, Margie, donated more than $30 million to the nonprofit museum, which was named in his honor.

The $500-a-person annual “Cars and Stars” fundraiser has been recast this year as a tribute to Petersen.
