Cartoon cops will police Internet
Police in China’s capital, Beijing, said they would start patrolling the Internet using animated beat officers that pop up on browsers and walk, bike or drive across the screen warning users to stay away from banned content.
Starting Saturday, the cartoon alerts will appear every half-hour on 13 of China’s top portals, and by year’s end will appear on all websites registered with Beijing servers, the Beijing Public Security Ministry said.
The statement did not say whether there were plans to boost monitoring.
