Reclaimed wood, new environment

Environment Furniture, one of the original stores-within-a-store at H.D. Buttercup, has opened a stand-alone location at South Coast Plaza in Costa Mesa. The company has built a following on living, dining and bedroom pieces made of peroba wood salvaged in Brazil, and lest anyone forget, the reclaimed material lines an entire wall of the new showroom, above right. Hanging panels made of recycled paper and coffee bean sacks, left, carry on the theme, as does much of the merchandise. New Bina sofas are covered in what had been the canvas tarps of Brazilian flatbed cargo trucks. The weathered and washed upholstery comes complete with the original hand-sewn patches. South Coast Plaza, second floor, near the Macy’s Home store; (714) 557-3100; www.environment-furniture.com.
