Red Cross: A column by Meghan Daum on Dec. 1 gave the wrong first name of a former Red Cross president and chief executive. She is Marsha J. Evans, not Martha J. Evans. The column also stated that Evans stepped down after the Red Cross’ response to Hurricane Katrina was deemed inadequate. She resigned amid criticism of the Red Cross’ Katrina response; however, news reports said her resignation was primarily the result of disagreements with the organization’s board.
