Red alert

Re “ ‘The powers of the earth,’ ” editorial, Dec. 20

This editorial comments that the Democratic Party should more logically be represented by the color green instead of blue. That’s interesting in that most major news media before the 2000 elections used red to represent states taken by Democrats. Internationally, most countries use red to represent liberal or socialist parties and blue for conservative.

What could have caused the media to switch the colors? Could it be that the Democratic Party does not wish to be associated with communist or socialist ideals and the news media is going along?
