Taiwan’s High Court cleared opposition presidential candidate Ma Ying-jeou of graft charges, rejecting an appeal by prosecutors.

The decision clears the way for him to represent the Nationalist Party in the race with Frank Hsieh of the ruling Democratic Progressive Party in Taiwan’s March 22 presidential election.

The ruling by the court was closely watched by millions of Taiwanese. A guilty verdict and a prison sentence of 10 years or more would have disqualified Ma from the presidential race.
