‘Karamazov’ heads critics nominees

The Circle X production of “The Brothers Karamazov,” Fyodor Dostoevsky’s epic saga of sin and redemption in 19th century Russia, leads the nominees in the 38th annual Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle Awards, to be announced today.

With seven nods, including outstanding production, the play, staged at [Inside] the Ford at the Ford Amphitheatre, received the most nominations for a show. Other nominees in the outstanding production category: “A Man of No Importance” (Musical Theatre Guild), “Bach at Leipzig” (South Coast Repertory), “A Marvelous Party” (Laguna Playhouse) and “Grace” (Furious Theatre Company).

Awards will be given in 16 categories honoring excellence in theater over the last year. Among six special award recipients are Richard Montoya, who will receive the Ted Schmitt Award for Culture Clash’s world premiere play, “Water & Power”; and Troubadour Theater Company, taking the Margaret Harford Award for sustained excellence in theater.

The awards ceremony, hosted by Culture Clash, will be March 19 at the El Portal Theatre in North Hollywood. A full list of nominees can be found at calendarlive.com.
