‘Grand Avenue’ is the wrong path

Re “Grand Avenue project needs help, report says,” Feb. 3

So let’s get this right. The Los Angeles City Council wants to give $66 million in tax breaks to developers to build a hotel with rooms that start at $400 per night. All of this to support the developers’ myth that downtown Los Angeles will finally become “vibrant” if we just build a few more skyscrapers. Not even considering the effect on our existing issues of traffic and congestion, just how will the city benefit?

The leaders of L.A., who by default are the developers and the politicians they contribute to, have determined that the city in the near future will look very much like New York, except without any means of getting from place to place. Without more public interest, that is exactly what we will get.
