Marriage on the rocks, with a twist
Kathleen Turner and Bill Irwin reprise their Broadway roles as history professor George and his wife, Martha, in Edward Albee’s Tony Award-winning savage marital comedy “Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?” The two attack each other with verbal assaults and razor-edged wit while the young couple they’ve invited for dinner become hapless foils in their twisted fun and games. The 2005 New York revival received six Tony nominations; best actor honors went to Irwin, renowned for his rubber-faced, rubber-limbed genius in the theatrical clown shows “Fool Moon” and “The Regard of Flight.” The Ahmanson show is presented by Center Theatre Group and directed by Anthony Page, who helmed the Broadway production.
