30-year fixed-rate mortgages fall to 6.28%

Mortgage company Freddie Mac said 30-year, fixed-rate mortgages averaged 6.28% this week, down from 6.34% last week and the highest since October.

Rates on 15-year, fixed-rate mortgages, a popular choice for refinancing, fell to 6.02%, down from 6.06% last week. Five-year adjustable-rate mortgages fell to 6.02%, down from 6.04% last week. One-year ARMs dipped to 5.49%, down from 5.54% last week.

The mortgage rates do not include add-on fees known as points. Thirty-year and 15-year mortgages each carried a nationwide average fee of 0.3 of a point. Five-year mortgages carried an average fee of 0.4 of a point while one-year mortgages carried a fee of 0.7 of a point.
