Re “Merkel rises, steady as she goes,” Feb. 5

Although German Chancellor Angela Merkel has been in office less than two years, she can teach President Bush a thing or two about leadership skills. Merkel successfully uses the art of diplomacy and has emerged as a powerful world leader who is respected by friends as well as foes. Her ability to walk softly while carrying a big stick is admirable. Too bad Bush never learned how.
