Boeing Co., the world’s second-largest maker of commercial airplanes, said Monday that Air New Zealand Ltd. had finalized an order for four additional 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft valued at $700 million at list prices.

The order, which was first announced in December, will bring the airline’s total Dreamliner order to eight, Boeing said. The four airplanes will be delivered between 2011 and 2013.

Air New Zealand will buy the planes at a “significant discount” to the list price, the Auckland, New Zealand-based airline said.

“Typically, they wind up being below list prices,” Boeing spokesman Bob Saling said in a telephone interview Monday. He declined to provide the actual amounts. “It’s all based on when you want delivery and what features you want on them.”

Air New Zealand, which is 81% owned by the government of New Zealand and is the country’s largest carrier, has options for eight more planes, it said.

Chicago-based Boeing also said Monday that Polish Airlines boosted its Dreamliner order by one aircraft to eight. The first seven were ordered in 2005, with delivery to begin next year.

Boeing now has 468 orders from 37 customers for the 787, for which it began taking orders in April 2004, Saling said. The top three orders have been from Japan’s All Nippon Airways Co., with 50; Qantas Airways Ltd., 45; and Japan Airlines Corp., 30.
