USC gift: Veteran producer Norman Lear has made a $6-million pledge to the USC Annenberg School for Communication that includes the establishment of the Norman Lear Chair in Entertainment, Media and Society. The position will be held initially by Martin Kaplan, who already is director of the school’s Norman Lear Center, which studies the influence of entertainment on society.
Broadway bound: Sierra Boggess, currently starring as Christine in the Las Vegas production of “The Phantom of the Opera,” will play the title role in the Broadway adaptation of Disney’s “The Little Mermaid.” The musical opens in her hometown of Denver in July and is scheduled to move to New York in November.
