Troop increase set for Afghanistan

Britain will increase its troop strength by 1,000 in southern Afghanistan to bolster NATO forces battling Taliban militants, news media reported days after Prime Minister Tony Blair said he was pulling some troops out of Iraq.
Defense Minister Des Browne confirmed that a deployment would bolster the more than 5,000 British troops already in Afghanistan, but he would not provide a number.
