Hundreds of passengers stood in line for hours at Los Angeles International Airport on Sunday, as airlines struggled to rebook people whose flights were canceled because of a dust storm in Texas.

The freak storm at American Airlines’ largest hub shut down most activity at Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport for five hours Saturday.

The storm caused the cancellation of 274 departing flights, American Airlines spokesman John Hotard said.

The disruption at LAX continued into Sunday, as passengers who had been bumped the day before tried to get flights to Dallas-Fort Worth, he said.

Altogether at LAX, 10 American flights and one United Airlines flight headed for Dallas-Fort Worth were canceled Saturday, an LAX spokeswoman said.

In addition to the canceled flights, about 20 more flights to and from Dallas were delayed by as much as 4 1/2 hours, she said.

Full flights, plus winter storms in Chicago and the northeast this weekend, further complicated American’s operations, Hotard said.
