This article discusses the recommendation that Down screening be conducted for all pregnancies rather than restricted to those generally considered high risk. However, some context would be useful.

What is the purpose of broader screening? What are the medical benefits for the child to testing? Will counseling and resources be provided to parents on how to care for a child with Down syndrome? Can treatment for Down syndrome be offered during pregnancy? Will termination of pregnancy be recommended if Down syndrome is present?
