Chavez’s dilemma

Share

Re “Fidel Chavez?” editorial, Jan. 11

Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez may or may not have totalitarian designs on his country, but his move against television station RCTV is hardly unjustified. Al Jazeera was booted out of Iraq for simply showing civilian casualties and reporting the numbers of innocent Iraqis being killed. It did not go so far as to cheer (or offer communication support for) any insurgency.

Perhaps Chavez can take a page from the Bush administration: either bomb its facilities (Al Jazeera) or cut its funding (public television). Which would The Times find acceptable?
