Is covering the sin also a sin?

Re “The (free)way and the light,” Jan. 13

According to The Times, graphic artist James Cui allegedly committed a misdemeanor, punishable by a maximum fine of $1,000 and a maximum jail term of six months, for unlawfully displaying video-projected nighttime signs on the Catholic cathedral as well as other public buildings. Although he has done this without penalty, The Times says officials of the code enforcement bureau of the Department of Building and Safety will not “let him off that easy if they catch him projecting signage on the sides of buildings.” What more do they need to catch him? The Times featured a photograph of him committing the act, and he admits that the published photograph of his sign on the cathedral was done by him. Also, it appears that Cui was actually committing this crime while The Times photographed him. If so, was The Times not aiding and abetting a misdemeanor committed in its presence? It looks like even Inspector Clouseau could solve this one.
