Mine owner held in reporter’s death

Police have arrested the owner of an unlicensed coal mine on suspicion of arranging the Jan. 10 fatal beating of a reporter, which touched off an outcry for better protection for Chinese journalists, the official New China News Agency reported.
Hou Zhenrun, owner of a small mine outside the northern city of Datong, is accused of organizing a group to attack Lan Chengzhang, a reporter for China Trade News, and a colleague who wanted to interview Hou about his mining operation, New China News said.
