Update -- The Sparks, excoriated by Coach Michael Cooper after Friday night’s 80-68 loss to the New York Liberty, won their first two games after Chamique Holdsclaw’s surprise retirement last month but have since lost five of seven. Holdsclaw scored a team-high 18 points in the Sparks’ season-opening 81-64 victory at Chicago on May 22. The Sky, 5-29 in its expansion season last year, has been competitive, though the team lost three in a row before Friday night’s 92-84 double-overtime victory at Sacramento. Jia Perkins, who did not play against the Sparks in May, scored 19 points and a career-high 39 in the Sky’s last two games.
