D.A. Nifong agrees to go immediately

Disgraced Durham County Dist. Atty. Mike Nifong submitted a new letter of resignation, agreeing to leave office immediately. Durham County Superior Court Judge Orlando Hudson had threatened to remove him from office. Nifong was disbarred and suspended from office over his handling of a case in which three Duke lacrosse players were falsely accused of rape. He had submitted a resignation letter last month that was to take effect July 13.
