From Times Wire Reports

Tens of thousands of Protestant hard-liners marched without trouble through Belfast and other Northern Ireland cities in an annual event that once ignited clashes with Roman Catholics. The Orange Order marches commemorate a 1690 victory by Protestant forces.

Sinn Fein, the Irish Republican Army-linked party, used to try to block the parades, but the conflict has faded since the IRA renounced violence so Sinn Fein could join the government.
