Bedouins protest demolition order
Dozens of people were injured when Egyptian police clashed with about 3,000 Bedouins protesting a government order to demolish their houses along the Gaza Strip border.
Security officials said at least one police officer was hurt when protesters lobbed rocks at police deployed to disperse them in downtown Rafah.
Police reported firing tear gas and water cannons. A reporter on the scene said police also fired rubber bullets, injuring as many as 50 people.
Egyptian media have reported a government plan to force the Bedouins from a 500-foot-wide band of land along the border to prevent traffickers from digging tunnels used to smuggle weapons and people into Gaza.
