From Times Wire Reports

Tropical Storm Barry formed in the Gulf of Mexico on the first day of hurricane season, and the National Hurricane Center in Miami issued a tropical storm warning for the state’s west coast from Bonita Beach north to Keaton Beach.

The storm had sustained winds near 50 mph. The hurricane center said Barry threatened to bring dangerous waves, coastal flooding and rainfall of 3 to 6 inches. Forecasters did not expect the storm to grow into a hurricane.
