Let them suffer
Re “Free the old, fix the prisons,” Opinion, June 6
Vince Beiser advocates releasing elderly prisoners. This should not be automatic. A prisoner may be sick, old and feeble, deemed rehabilitated and incapable of committing more crimes. But we should examine why they are in prison. Murderers do not deserve to be released, no matter how old or rehabilitated they may be. It may be the humane thing for the prisoner but not the victims. A sentence of life should mean exactly that. If some killers suffer, if the families of killers suffer, that is the killers’ fault.
Let them suffer.
