Neighbor doesn’t like feeling boxed in
RE: “Double Visionaries” [June 21]: As one of Mr. Hillel Nachum’s neighbors, I can say that not everybody is thrilled with his duplex.
Although he didn’t do a faux Tuscan building, it’s still a McMansion -- built close to every property boundary. The “tired” Tudor-style duplex he tore down was a graceful building, totally in scale with its surroundings. Now we have a big box with a bunch of smaller boxes attached to the exterior to create a, what, faux modern? That’s right, the building is basically a box. The flat boxes tacked onto the exterior for texture are not integral to the building, they are merely appliques.

Duplexes: A June 21 article on duplexes and a June 28 photo caption with a letter about the article said a property at the corner of Harper and Waring avenues is in West Hollywood. The property is in Los Angeles, a block south of West Hollywood city limits.
