Iran demanded an end to U.N. Security Council “interference” in exchange for clearing up suspicions about its disputed nuclear activities.

Tehran has made similar offers before.

The overture came as the five permanent members of the council deliberated a new resolution aiming to tighten sanctions against Iran for its refusal to stop uranium enrichment.

Enrichment can be used to make the fissile core of nuclear warheads, though Iran says it wants to enrich only to low levels used to generate power.
