Re “Possible Spector juror is e-mailed,” May 5
A story conveniently bylined “From a Times Staff Writer” informs readers that “a freelance journalist affiliated with The Times contacted a person believed to be a juror in the Phil Spector murder trial.” Is this the path for The Times of the future? Non-bylined stories about Times-affiliated journalists engaging in ethically questionable, if not outright illegal, actions involving one of the city’s biggest murder trials in years? If the paper’s editors think a story is important enough for publication, then the name of the story’s author and, especially, the name of the journalist involved should also be public record. Otherwise the paper appears to be hiding crucial information.
