Bones Thugs-N-Harmony hits No. 2 with new CD
BONES Thugs-N-Harmony returns to the pop charts with a new album, “Strength & Loyalty,” which premieres at No. 2 this week with 119,000 copies sold, topped only by Michael Buble’s “Call Me Irresponsible,” which sold 145,000 copies in its second week in stores, according to Nielsen SoundScan.
“Strength & Loyalty” is the seventh studio album from the Grammy-winning Ohio trio (or its eighth if you count the Internet-only “Bone 4 Life” in 2005). The group gets plenty of help on the new collection: Mariah Carey, the Game, Bow Wow and Akon are among the guests.
Buble’s weekly sales declined 32%, but softer competition pushed him to the top spot.
R&B; singer Bobby Valentino opens at No. 3 with “Special Occasion” (92,000 copies). The singer, born Bobby Wilson, got his nickname because his birth was expected on Valentine’s Day 1980. He missed it by 13 days.
Barbra Streisand is at No. 7 with “Streisand: Live in Concert 2006” (60,000 copies), a double-album with performances from Washington, New York and Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
The songs include “Evergreen,” “The Music of the Night” and “Funny Girl,” and Il Divo appears on several tracks. According to Billboard, it’s Streisand’s 29th Top 10 album.
Linkin Park’s new “Minutes to Midnight,” released Tuesday, is the favorite to take over the No. 1 slot next week. It would post the year’s biggest first-week sales if it tops Norah Jones’ 405,000 figure with “Not Too Late,” in February.
