A strike by more than 500 guards at the Energy Department’s Pantex Plant in Amarillo, the nation’s primary factory for servicing nuclear weapons, ended after the union membership accepted a company settlement offer.

The strike, which lasted about six weeks, had prompted concerns that the 25-square-mile plant was not adequately protected. BWX Technologies, which operates the plant under contract, said it was developing a transition plan to bring strikers back to work.
