Trumpeter Ernest “Doc” Paulin, 100, believed to be New Orleans’ oldest traditional jazz musician and a performer since the 1920s, died Tuesday at a daughter’s home in suburban Marrero, La., family members said.

Doc Paulin’s Brass Band was one of the city’s more popular jazz bands for years and was featured in “Always for Pleasure,” an award-winning film about New Orleans culture, the New Orleans Times-Picayune reported.

A native of Wallace, La., Paulin grew up in a family of musicians. His father played the accordion. His uncle, Edgar Peters, was a trombonist, and many of his 10 sons and three daughters are musicians. At least six performed in his band.
