Lessing will miss Nobel ceremony
Nobel literature prize winner Doris Lessing will not attend next month’s award ceremony in Stockholm after being advised not to travel, the Nobel Foundation said Wednesday.
The 88-year-old author “has been ill for some time but had very much hoped to be able to come,” the Stockholm-based foundation said.
Lessing will instead receive the prize, which includes a gold medal and a $1.6-million payment, at a ceremony in London, the foundation said. Her prerecorded Nobel lecture will be presented at the Swedish Academy on Dec. 7, three days before the ceremony in Stockholm.
