High court rejects HP bid to halt suit

The U.S. Supreme Court refused to block a lawsuit that accuses Compaq Computer Corp., now part of Hewlett-Packard Co., of selling 1.7 million computers with defective components that failed to detect data errors.
The justices, without comment, rejected an appeal by Palo Alto-based Hewlett-Packard. An Oklahoma state appeals court let the case advance as a nationwide class action seeking unspecified damages.
