Sitting just a little prettier

For all those jazz fans who’ve participated in their own manner of improvisation (foam cushions, Zen stillness) at the Jazz Bakery, this news is big: Just last week, the venue debuted its padded fabric chairs.

Gone are the plastic patio chairs that have become synonymous with (and, for some, a caveat to) the Jazz Bakery experience. Well, they’re not entirely gone just yet. If you’re in a sentimental mood, proprietor Ruth Price says she’s giving away “the historically imbued” seats. And for $100 (tax deductible), you can sponsor a new chair and receive a lobby plaque acknowledging the donation, “and an old chair too, if you’d like. While they last.”

The Jazz Bakery, 3233 Helms Ave., Los Angeles. (310) 271-9039.
