Robert Garlock, 41; New York publicist for movie stars and films

Robert Garlock, 41, a New York-based publicist who represented such Hollywood stars as Penelope Cruz, Hugh Grant and Uma Thurman, died Sunday from complications of non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma.

Garlock became a partner and head of the talent division of 42West in 2005 after 16 years at the PMK/HBH public relations agency.

Known as a gentlemanly, old-school publicist who had a great sense of style, Garlock impressed colleagues with the way he handled and nurtured his clients. During his career, they included Kate Winslet, Clive Owen, Hilary Swank, Sigourney Weaver and Johnny Depp, among others.

Garlock also worked on publicity campaigns for more than 40 films, including “Pulp Fiction,” “Four Weddings and a Funeral,” “The English Patient” and “The Hours,” and on campaigns for numerous top musical artists and authors.

Garlock, who grew up in Canal Fulton, Ohio, moved to New York to attend New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts. While in college, he launched his career as an on-campus marketing intern for Warner Bros. He later worked at Spectra Films and Orion Pictures before joining PMK/HBH.
