From Times Wire Reports

President Pervez Musharraf appointed Nadeem Taj, who was his military secretary when he seized power in 1999, as director-general of the powerful Inter-Services Intelligence agency.

He replaces Ashfaq Kiani, who is among the top generals seen as possible successors to Musharraf as army chief. Musharraf has pledged to give up his uniform if reelected president by lawmakers Oct. 6.

Another possible successor, Tariq Majid, was replaced as the corps commander in Rawalpindi. The military didn’t say whether Kiani or Majid were being promoted or had retired.
