Fish diet may help cut risk of diabetes

A diet rich in fish and other sources of omega-3 fatty acids helped cut the risk that children with a family history of Type 1 diabetes would develop the disease, researchers reported Tuesday in the Journal of the American Medical Assn.

Researchers studied 1,770 children deemed at high risk for diabetes. Those who had a diet rich in the omega-3 acids were 55% less likely to have immune cells that attack insulin-secreting cells in the pancreas.
