Guilty plea in kickback case

Melvyn Weiss, the co-founder of a prominent New York law firm, has pleaded guilty to a racketeering conspiracy charge in a lawsuit kickback scheme involving some of the largest companies in the U.S.
The 72-year-old Weiss entered his plea under a previously announced plea deal. He has been ordered to pay nearly $10 million in fines and forfeiture penalties and could be sentenced to as much as 33 months in prison.
