Magnets in darts pose risk to kids

About 870,000 Fun N’ Games magnetic dartboards, made in China and imported by Henry Gordy International Inc., were recalled because small magnets on the darts can detach and young children can swallow them, the Consumer Product Safety Commission said. If more than one magnet is swallowed, the magnets can attract one another and cause internal damage. The products were sold at Family Dollar stores nationwide from September 2002 through last month. * Malt-O-Meal Co. is recalling unsweetened puffed rice and unsweetened puffed wheat cereals after it found salmonella in a product produced March 24. The company said it had no reports of resulting illnesses but was recalling the products with use-by dates ranging from April 8, 2008 to March 18, 2009.

The recalled product is distributed nationally under the Malt-O-Meal brand as well as Acme, America’s Choice, Food Club, Giant, Hannaford, Jewel, Laura Lynn, Pathmark, Shaw’s, ShopRite, Tops and Weis Quality.

* Avon Products Inc. recalled about 113,000 Chinese-made toy bears with a microwaveable pouch inside after six people reported minor burns.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission said it had received reports of 41 instances of the bears overheating.

Avon sold about 113,000 of the “warming bears” between July and February. They came with a removable pouch designed to be heated in a microwave oven.

* About 12,000 electric toasters distributed by Salton Inc. were recalled because the toaster can turn on without bread in the internal slots, posing a fire hazard.

The toasters were sold online and by retail liquidators around the country from January 2000 to December 2007.
