Actors belong in Calendar

Share

Thank you for the articles on individuals with developmental disabilities [“Rising Stars,” “Honing Their Craft, Making Their Mark” and “Out in the World, and Working,” April 7].

As a person who has worked in this field for nearly 30 years, I am, however, miffed that you would place these three meaningful articles in your Monday Health section, rather than the Calendar or Business sections.

This misstep clearly reinforces the idea that disabilities can be resolved through a medical model. Put stories where they belong, where you would put any article about business or show business.

I am a friend of [actor] Nick Daley’s and am familiar with the Performing Arts Studio West. I have cast Nick in four small projects (a couple of them in the starring role). When we would get on set, Nick not only knew his lines from the script, he knew everyone’s lines. It was incredible to see Nick go through someone else’s monologue to jog their memory. You should have seen their jaws drop.

Nick is truly a gifted actor and a very nice young man.
