Merge unions to end tiff

Re “Get a new script,” editorial, April 16

Your editorial astutely framed the issues in the current actors union negotiations. Your analysis of the major proposals is right on. The American Federation of Television and Radio Artists has been in consultation with industry experts for months and considers it a victory to have forced the Screen Actors Guild to the bargaining table this early in the contract period. There’s money in this contract for all, but none will see any if the current hard-line SAG leadership insists on taking everyone to the brink. Of course, it is tragic to see two separate unions having this tiff over turf. The only logical answer to current and future labor difficulties is the merger of these two unions.
