The Defense Department last week identified the following American military personnel killed in Afghanistan, Iraq and Kuwait:

David J. Badie, 23, of Rockford, Ill.; private first class, Army. Badie was among four soldiers killed Aug. 1 when their vehicle struck a roadside bomb in the Chowkay Valley area of northeastern Afghanistan’s Kunar province. He was assigned to the Special Troops Battalion, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division at Ft. Hood, Texas.

Ryan P. Baumann, 24, of Great Mills, Md.; sergeant, Army. Baumann was killed Aug. 1 when his vehicle struck a roadside bomb while traveling on Route Alaska in eastern Afghanistan. He was assigned to the 4th Battalion, 320th Field Artillery Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) at Ft. Campbell, Ky.

Jennifer L. Cole, 34, of American Canyon, Calif.; private first class, Army. Cole died of a noncombat-related gunshot wound Aug. 2 in Baiji, Iraq, north of Baghdad. Her death was under investigation. Cole was assigned to the 426th Support Battalion, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) at Ft. Campbell, Ky.

Kevin R. Dickson, 21, of Steelville, Mo.; specialist, Army. Dickson died of noncombat-related injuries Aug. 2 in Balad, Iraq, north of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 10th Special Forces Group (Airborne), Group Support Battalion, Group Service Support Company at Ft. Carson, Colo.

Jair De Jesus Garcia, 29, of Chatsworth; private, Army. Garcia was among four soldiers killed Aug. 1 when their vehicle struck a roadside bomb in the Chowkay Valley area of northeastern Afghanistan’s Kunar province. He was assigned to the 6th Squadron, 4th Cavalry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division at Ft. Hood, Texas.

Michael R. Girdano, 23, of Kiski Township, Pa.; second lieutenant, Army. Girdano was among four soldiers killed Aug. 1 when their vehicle struck a roadside bomb in the Chowkay Valley area of northeastern Afghanistan’s Kunar province. He was assigned to the Special Troops Battalion, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division at Ft. Hood, Texas.

Jaime Gonzalez Jr., 40, of Austin, Texas; sergeant, Army National Guard. Gonzalez was killed Aug. 3 when his vehicle struck a land mine in Kabul, Afghanistan. He was assigned to the 436th Chemical Company in Laredo, Texas.

Gary M. Henry, 34, of Indianapolis; sergeant, Army National Guard. Henry was one of two guardsmen killed Monday when debris from the detonation of an improvised explosive device on an overpass fell onto their Humvee in Baghdad. He was assigned to the 38th Military Police Company, 38th Infantry Division in Danville, Ind.

Timothy J. Hutton, 21, of Dillon, Mont.; private, Army. Hutton died of noncombat-related injuries Monday in Baghdad. He was assigned to the 54th Engineer Battalion, 18th Engineer Brigade in Bamberg, Germany.

Errol M. James, 29, of St. Croix, Virgin Islands; sergeant, Army. James died of noncombat-related injuries Monday at Forward Operating Base Torkham in eastern Afghanistan’s Nangahar province, near the Pakistani border. He was assigned to the 527th Military Police Company, 709th Military Police Battalion in Grafenwoehr, Germany.

Garrett T. Lawton, 31, of Charleston, W.Va.; captain, Marine Corps. Lawton was killed in combat Monday while serving with a Marine special operations unit in western Afghanistan’s Herat province. He was assigned to the Marine Corps Forces Special Operations Command at Camp Lejeune, N.C.

Danny E. Maybin, 47, of Columbia, S.C.; master sergeant, Army. Maybin died of noncombat-related injuries Thursday at Camp Arifjan, Kuwait, a gateway for U.S. soldiers moving into and out of Iraq. He was assigned to Headquarters, Army Forces Command at Ft. McPherson, Ga.

Jonathan D. Menke, 22, of Madison, Ind.; specialist, Army National Guard. Menke was one of two guardsmen killed Monday when debris from the detonation of an improvised explosive device on an overpass fell onto their Humvee in Baghdad. He was assigned to the 38th Military Police Company, 38th Infantry Division in Danville, Ind.

Brian K. Miller, 37, of Pendleton, Ind.; staff sergeant, Army National Guard. Miller was killed Aug. 2 when his vehicle overturned in Abd Allah, Iraq, northeast of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 293rd Infantry Regiment, 76th Brigade Combat Team in Fort Wayne, Ind.

Andre D. Mitchell, 25, of Elmont, N.Y.; specialist, Army. Mitchell was killed July 31 in a military vehicle accident in Mosul, Iraq, north of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment at Ft. Hood, Texas.

William J. Mulvihill, 20, of Leavenworth, Kan.; specialist, Army. Mulvihill was among four soldiers killed Aug. 1 when their vehicle struck a roadside bomb in the Chowkay Valley area of northeastern Afghanistan’s Kunar province. He was assigned to the Special Troops Battalion, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division at Ft. Hood, Texas.

Ronald A. Schmidt, 18, of Newton, Kan.; specialist, Army National Guard. Schmidt died Aug. 3 in Balad, Iraq, of injuries suffered a day earlier in a vehicle accident in Ashraf, north of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 161st Field Artillery in Kingman, Kan.
