Spice importer to pay back wages
From Times Wire Services
La Villita Inc., a Los Angeles spice importer, has agreed to pay more than $73,000 in back wages to a dozen workers who had been underpaid, the U.S. Department of Labor said.
The company, which does business as El Picante, imports chili and other spices. It has operations in Los Angeles and South El Monte.
Federal investigators say employees worked as many as 58 hours a week without receiving correct overtime pay and sometimes earned less than the federal minimum wage of $6.55 an hour.
